Taking responsibility for your choices has never looked better!
Design
The building blocks for the Monkeyglasses DNA were laid in 2009, since then their design philosophy has been “look good while doing good.” Monkeyglasses have a Scandinavian feel and their eyewear is designed for the conscious consumer, offering a sustainable choice for the large group of people who need glasses and sunglasses. The team at Monkeyglasses is very focused on zero waste, and especially the waste material from making the frames for the eyewear is given new life by transforming them into accessories. For some of the frames, they use a super thin material, which is only 4 mm thick and very light. This makes the glasses very comfortable for the wearer.
In recent years, Monkeyglasses has gained access to recycled stainless steel, and has therefore created more frames in which the metal is more prominent, but the cotton acetate is still included, as soft and light rods.
Materials
They have designed special biodegradable material for their collections to make the frames feel and look like wood, horn or crystal. Their unique products show consideration for both the environment and the people involved in making them. Monkeyglasses (eyewear) are made of cotton acetate – a special type of plastic that is about 95% cotton flower and wood, and the raw material is biodegradable. Cotton acetate is a nature-friendly material that is difficult to produce. It requires a long series of steps to achieve the desired effect. These materials are made specifically for Monkeyglasses collections.

Manufacturing
Monkeyglasses is a pioneer in designing sustainable, exclusive eyewear and only 266 g of C02 is created by the activities while making a Monkeyglasses. It is important for them (and all of us) to keep their carbon footprint as low as possible.
Production
Each pair of Monkeyglasses is handed over 200 times before it is ready for use. Production takes place in Hong Kong, where both worker conditions and environmental considerations comply with the UN Global Compact. There is no waste in production – all cut pieces of the cotton material are melted down and used for new eyeglass frames. Each Monkeyglasses is shipped in plastic-free shipping bags made from recycled paper. Each pair of glasses comes with the unique, foldable case, which is also based on recycled paper.
Customers
We believe that sustainability should be for everyone, regardless of budget, age or size. Monkeyglasses offers sustainable choices for the conscious consumer that are both fashionable and affordable. Monkeyglasses’ children’s eyewear helps the younger generations to be sustainable. That way, we all have the opportunity to be part of the solution, rather than the problem, when it comes to building a better future for our planet and future generations.

Save The Orangutan
The name behind Monkeyglasses is not just about a proud ‘goggle monkey’! Since the founding of the company, Monkeyglasses has supported the ‘Save the Orangutan in Borneo’ foundation. The organization was founded by a Danish woman and today is run by local employees. The organization works to preserve the rainforests and the crucial biodiversity they contain.
Thousands of wild orangutans are lost every year – they are victims of the destruction of their rainforest home. This could mean the extinction of one of the world’s four species of great apes – one of our most intelligent and peaceful relatives. Save the Orangutan works to save the endangered orangutan and its rainforest habitat. The project supports the rescue and relocation of wild orangutans whose forest habitats have been destroyed, and the rehabilitation of orphaned orangutans who – without help – would die or be sold for the illegal pet trade. monkeyglasses sponsors the rehabilitation work, and Mai-Britt Seaton, the designer behind monkeyglasses, has adopted Cinta the orangutan.
Recycling
Glasses are products that generally have a long lifespan. The prescription needed may change, but that doesn’t mean the glasses are done with their job. Less fortunate people around the world also need glasses. monkeyglasses helps collect old eyeglasses for the Danish organization Syn For Sagen I Africa, where old eyeglasses are taken by volunteer opticians to people in need, given new life and brought much joy. But when the life of a Monkeyglasses ends, the materials used for the frames are biodegradable and easy to recycle.
