What can we be of service to you?

The main function of the glasses is still “be able to see well or better”. Previously, people first went to the ophthalmologist, who wrote a prescription for glasses and only then the optician came into the picture. Nowadays you only visit the ophthalmologist if the qualified optician / optometrist deems it necessary.

Traditionally, making eyeglasses is a traditional profession, the ordered optical glasses must ultimately also be ground into the selected frame! Many opticians leave the sharpening of the glasses to central glass polishers, but with van der Geest optics the craft is carried out in their own workshop. This gives greater accuracy! And so I think the profession is too good to outsource this craft to third parties.

How to maintain your own glasses

  • Rinse your glasses under running, lukewarm water to remove dust and other dirt. Then clean the glasses with glasses cleaning spray.
  • Never use glass cleaner, soap or other cleaning agents. This can damage the protective layer of the frame and lenses.
  • Use a lens cloth, preferably a microfibre cloth. We do not recommend tissues or kitchen paper, as they may contain wood fibres. This can damage the glasses.
  • Never put your glasses on the lenses.
  • Keep your glasses in a glasses case.

Glass types

The type of glass depends on the daily activities and work

Glass types

Single lenses

A single lens contains one main strength, with the same values in every part of the lens. Wherever you look in the glass, everywhere you see the same as in the middle.

With this type of glass you can see both far and near. Depending on the loss of elasticity of the eye (age related, usually from 40 years) the single lens will no longer be sufficient for both far and near. The single glass will then only be suitable for far or near.

Single lenses are available in many qualifications.

Glass types

Progressive lenses

Arms getting too short, blurry letters with reading?

Letters become blurry, especially when the lighting is poor. To still be able to read it, move the text further and further away. This is not something to worry about. Everyone between 40 and 50 years old will have to deal with this.

A multifocal lens is a solution. This gives a perfect view at all distances: near, far and in between. Because there are multiple prescriptions (compared to single prescription lenses) in the lens, you can use them as both reading glasses and normal distance glasses. So you don’t have multiple glasses that you always have to put on and take off.

Glass types

Desk glasses

Frequent and prolonged use of the computer demands a great deal from us, whereby complaints such as tired eyes and headaches are well-known symptoms / characteristics. Glasses wearers can also experience neck complaints, resulting from an unnatural posture. Maximum support on short and medium distances is also desirable.
